Memorial Day

There's a small list of things my town does right. Every year on Memorial Day, September 11th, and Veteran's Day, a police officer will escort a committee member down the main highway through our town as he posts American flags. They usually keep them up for a few days afterwards too.

It's pretty cool to drive into the town and see the flags lining the road the entire way through town. I love it because they don't take this important day and turn it into another festival or party event. Yes, we do have a Memorial Day parade, but it's to honor the men and women who served our country.

Today, I'll respect my town a little more. And just because there's three days out of the year that we nationally acknowledge our respect for veterans and military men and women, doesn't mean we can't show our respect the other 362 days.

Thank you Granddad, Jayne, and every veteran and active service person, as well as the memory of those who sacrificed their lives for our country.
