Every summer our 4-H has a horse camp. I attended for six or seven years, first as a camper, then a counselor, and returning after graduating 4-H to help out. One of my absolute favorite memories is from a couple years ago, on the first night of camp.

Memorial Day
There's a small list of things my town does right. Every year on Memorial Day, September 11th, and Veteran's Day, a police officer will escort a committee member down the main highway through our town as he posts American flags. They usually keep them up for a few days afterwards too.
It's pretty cool to drive into the town and see the flags lining the road the entire way through town. I love it because they don't take this important day and turn it into another festival or party event. Yes, we do have a Memorial Day parade, but it's to honor the men and women who served our country.
Today, I'll respect my town a little more. And just because there's three days out of the year that we nationally acknowledge our respect for veterans and military men and women, doesn't mean we can't show our respect the other 362 days.
Thank you Granddad, Jayne, and every veteran and active service person, as well as the memory of those who sacrificed their lives for our country.
One Person's Opinion
Well we had a ton of fun together at the show this past weekend, but a lot of people, including my mom and I, were very unhappy with the judge. Some shows you get a great judge who know's what they're doing, and some you get a judge who just blew in from crazy town.

Don't Pack Tuna
With show season upon us, Mom and I pack the trailer with all the foods we think we'll eat during the show (we usually just end up eating Ramen noodles and spaghetti anyway). She found this big metal box, big enough to fit a person inside, that she used with her family for camping trips when she was younger, and we pack all our canned foods in it. Well, when I opened it to check it at 9:00 tonight, it smelled like death.

Moo Cow Babysitters
I took my friend up to the field to see the moo cows last week and once they realized we didn't have any food, and we weren't going to take their babies, they grew bored and we got some cute pictures of them. One of the moms had three babies around her feet and I realized she was the babysitter.
Show Days
The first real show of the summer starts tomorrow! Today I'm spending all day riding, bathing Ted, packing clothes and tack, grocery shopping, and whatever else we need to do to live in the trailer for the next four days. The show is in New York and it's a breed show, meaning only Morgan horses are allowed to compete. Hopefully we'll have warm sunny weather this year, but fortunately the ring is indoors so if it does rain like last year we'll be ok. Have a good weekend everyone! I'll post pictures of Ted at bathtime when I get the chance. ;)

RIP Lina
I'm sorry to tell you guys, but little Lina didn't make it through the week. We're not sure exactly what she passed from. Practically speaking, it's the best outcome for her situation, but we're still sad to know she couldn't hold on. Poor little girl.. =(

Everything's Better In Pink
Travis, the guy who rents our farmhouse (like an older extra brother), got me a new toy for my birthday! I'm practicing with it until Jeff teaches me how to shoot the big kid guns.

Happy Mother's Day
Happy Mother's Day to my own mom as well as all my mom readers! My mom is the best woman I know, who'd give anything to see her kids happy. She's one of my closest friends, and greatest mentors. She's beautiful, strong, and smart, and I just hope that someday I'll be able to fill her shoes for my own kids. I love you, Mom.
Unfortunately I won't be able to celebrate with my family at my grandparents' house today, since I'll be working all day. But there are still flowers waiting downstairs for my mom to wake up to. I hope all my readers get to spend today with their mothers and let them know how much you love them. Today is all about appreciating our moms, so whatever you do, don't let them cook, clean, or lift a finger!

I'm Home!
As I dust off my blog, I'd like to thank all my loyal readers who checked the blog anyway while I was gone. You're all awesome! I had a fun time on my vacation and it was great to get away from work for a week. Oh and my dog LOVES to swim, who knew? As for the farm, I've apparently missed some fun stuff.

A Little Getaway
Dear Readers,
In celebration of my summer before summer classes, I'll be spending the next week on the beach with my best friend, and therefore I don't think I'll get around to posting anything farm related. So I wanted to let you know there'll be a lack of posting until about the 8th. Of course, if I happen to see something that I absolutely must share, I'll do so immediately. =)
Have a great week everyone!

This horse has the same skin color as me.
