Are We There Yet? (Thermopolis)

Sorry for skipping a few days, I thought you guys could use a break, and I had a massive headache last night that kept me from doing anything. Today (Thursday) we didn't do much, just drove a ton. So I'll catch you up on the excitement of Wednesday.

Wednesday we had planned on going to Yellowstone Park, but like I mentioned, Mom found out the south entrance was closed still. So we went to Thermopolis to visit the dinosaur museum. It wasn't a very big museum, but it was interesting. The drive from Cheyenne to Thermopolis is about 5 hours. After driving straight for a few hours, we got to go through a mountain pass with an ancient railroad running next to the river. The mountains were beyond gorgeous.

Train tunnel paralleling a car tunnel.

The pass opened up to a different terrain than the one we left. The rocks were all bright red.

Thermopolis is a cute little town with a handful of tourist attractions. The dino center being one of them, (I'm a sucker for fossils) as well as the natural hot springs. Once you learn to ignore the nasty, egg-like sulfur smell, it's pretty cool to explore the springs. The crystal water was hot enough to see steam rising off the stream. Steven and I also found two little caves we thoroughly explored.

That white cloud in the corner is steam.

Investigating.
