A Perfect Sunday

Yesterday was perfect. It could have been a bit warmer, but I'm not complaining. The sun was out with no clouds in sight, and only a slight breeze made us shiver. My brother, best friend, and I decided to spend the afternoon fishing.

(We had to be careful fishing because there is an electrical line that runs right over the pond, and many bobbers have been lost to tangling.)

After splashing through big mud holes, we got to the pond and found a big goose nest. The eggs were huge! The parents watched us from the far side of the pond. I thought it was weird that the geese left the nest, because the one at my grandparents' pond hissed and chased us when we got too close to her and her eggs. Maybe it was because we had Maggie with us yesterday.

Maggie is a great farm dog. She loved going to the pond with us. She got to explore, roll in things, and even swim a little. She stayed right with us, too, which was nice because our other two dogs would have wandered off and feined deafness when we called them.

She eventually got too tired from all the excitement and layed in the sun for a nap, right on top of Steven's fishing pole, as if she was guarding it for him.

There was a frog that kept croaking like an empty stomach and around 3 o'clock we got a little too hungry. So we packed up and went back to the house, and on an impromptu decision, we grilled enough burgers and dogs to feed the neighborhood. With full bellies and a warm spring breeze coming in through the windows, we settled in to watch the NASCAR race.

We got a little mud on the tires, dug for worms, and caught absolutely nothing in the pond. But that didn't stop us from trying. We would have fished all day if we packed food. It's probably best we didn't though, our faces got a little burnt from the sun and nothing was biting. All in all, it was the perfect spring day on the farm.

How did you spend the weekend? Has anyone gone fishing and sucessfully caught anything yet?
