No, I'm not talking about the Billie Holiday, Elvis, or Grease song, or even the color of the moon. A blue moon is a rare event that won't happen again until 2015.
A blue moon is when there are two full moons in one calendar month. You're thinking, "So what?" aren't you? Well this one is particularly special because it takes place on the same day as the private service for Neil Armstrong.
The moon doesn't actually turn blue, although different atmospheric conditions can give it a blueish tint, such as volcanic or forest fire debris. Full moons were always my favorite three days in the summers. The light reflected from the sun bathed the yards and you could see clearly for acres. So take a some time tonight, around 10 pm to look up and appreciate the beauty of a full moon.
