Triple Crown Hopes Dashed, Once Again

We were so close this year. I'll Have Another looked promising after his run at the Preakness, but Doug O'Neill decided to pull him from the Belmont Stakes and thus end our hopes for a Triple Crown win after 34 dry years.

The article is a little sketchy, but it says O'Neill pulled I'll Have Another due to the beginning of an injury. A leg injury can be life threatening for any horse, but especially for the race horses. We do not need another horse going down like Barbaro and countless others before him. It's hugely disappointing to be this close to the Triple Crown win, and not have the contender run, but safety for the horse is the ultimate importance.

We've only had 11 horses win the elusive Triple Crown since the first winner in 1919, and 21 have won the first two races but not the third. It's an incredibly hard title to win, but hopefully we'll have another great horse come along soon to wear the Crown.
