Alexa and I took the dogs for a nice long walk through the woods since we had such great weather this weekend. I needed writing inspiration and I couldn't sit still inside any longer. Our dogs had fun splashing through the creek and climbing on things, and we got plenty of cool pictures. I love walking through the woods. Until we got home.
I noticed two bugs on my shirt sleeve (thank god I wore a long sleeve today) and flicked them off as soon as I realized they were ticks. Then I proceeded to freak out. We took the dogs home and gave them baths. I found two ticks on Pudge, and one already sucking on him. One crawling on my back, and Lex said she'd flicked two off of my back earlier. She also found one on her back. I HATE THEM.
When I went on vacation with my best friend, Jayne back in May, we'd taken our dogs for a walk and found ticks then, too. So I remembered she'd said to cover the tick (that's stuck) with Dawn dish soap. It suffocates them and makes them easier to pull out. This worked on Pudge and thankfully I didn't have any stuck to me this time (unlike in May, I had two and still have the scars from them).
I didn't realized they'd be out so much since we had snow this winter, but I was proven wrong. If you go for a walk in the woods, which I always recommend, make sure you're protected! And always make sure your dogs are up to date on their flea and tick medicine.

He was shaking off. Too funny of a picture to not share!
I try to share space with nature's creatures ( in other words, I try to get them outside instead of squishing them), but I do not at all like having them on me--I can't imagine them actually under my skin. Eeek.
ReplyDeleteI agree! I'll sooner flick a spider outside than I will squash it, but fleas, ticks, and stink bugs are not safe. Gross!
